Launching Summer 2025

Welcome back to the Camp Nor’wester Blog! We’ll post updates and insights once or twice a week throughout the summer. Sign up for notifications or come back regularly to learn what’s going on at Nor’wester. Our goal is to provide a peek into the Camp experience but leave plenty for campers to share on their own when they return home; this is their summer and their story to tell.

The first summer staff arrived June 4th and from that moment, we were in full-on staff training mode.

Throughout staff training we strive for a balance of practicing hard skills, strategies for working with kids, and team building.

Staff Training at Camp Nor’wester is an immersive experience. As we move through all of the items above, staff also learn the rhythm of camp. Just as it’s important to sit down and talk about emergency response and risk management, it’s also important that staff learn the dances, experience a chapel, campfire, and nosebag. That way, when campers arrive staff are as prepared as they can be for the summer.

We know that we will never cover everything in staff training - the goal is to provide the tools to navigate whatever the summer might bring. Because the campers are here and we’re so excited to have them!
